Monday Made It ~ Lined Dry Erase Boards

Back to school time is the perfect time for me to start making things again because I just can't be lazy anymore!  I am linking up with Tara at Fourth Grade Frolics for Monday Made It!

Our school uses the Superkids program for K-2.  The kids have this fancy schmancy "Ice Cream Paper" that costs some outrageous amount, so I don't get any of it for my resource room.  Instead I "borrow" it from the K-2 teachers.  This year instead of borrowing paper, I made dry erase boards with sheets of paper.

Here are my supplies:  paper, report covers, and duct tape.

Wells Fargo bank donated the report covers to us when they cleaned a bunch of stuff out.  They have come in really handy lately!

First, I put the paper into the report cover sleeve.

Then I finished it off with duct tape all around it.

Now it is ready to write on!

I am considering putting duct tape on the bottom too.  What do you think?

Monday Made It ~ Cloze Paragraphs

I love Mondays when I can link up with a Monday Made It with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics!

I finally finished a project I started on last September and have been adding to.  It has been a labor of love!  I am most excited because I got it ready just in time for the Back to School TPT Sale!

My students need a lot of work with using context clues, especially as part of an assessment our school uses.  I created this set of cloze passages to help my students succeed with context clues, critical thinking, and the assessments.

The set includes a page of 4 cloze passages for each month of the year, two fiction and two nonfiction. The answer key for each month follows each month's page.

My students did these as a warm up once a week to help them think about and use those context clues.  They use a highlighter to choose their answer, and then we go over them together.  When we go over them, they use a pencil to check their answers.  Here is my January example.

Monday Made It ~ Clipboards

I love making things with my friends, and this past week we had one of our Pinterest parties at a friend's house.  After swimming and lunch, she had gotten the supplies to make clipboards.  How cool!

I am linking this up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for Monday Made It!

She had gone to the hardware store and had the boards cut for us.

We looked through books of 12x12 scrapbooking paper to choose two pages we wanted to use for the front and back of each clipboard.  We cut the pages to fit as we needed.  The back page was cut to wrap around the board at 11 and 1/2 by 9, and the front was cut to the exact measurements

Then we painted the back side with modge podge.  After that we wrapped the large page around the back and onto the front and painted that side with modge podge.

After it dried, we flipped it over to put paper on the other side by doing the same thing, except we didn't wrap the paper around the sides.

Once that was dried, we added our binder clips, fully equipped with a little bit of the paper as an accent. We put these on with hot glue, but mine popped off.  I used another bonding crafting glue to hold it on.  I hope that works!

Monday Made It ~ Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

I am finally getting around to a Monday Made it post with Tara from Fourth Grade Frolics!

My son's birthday was last week, and he wanted a cookies and cream cake.  When I went to go find one, they were outrageously expensive, so I decided to make one!  It was sooo simple and yummy!

Here's how I did it!

I used:

24 ice cream sandwiches (you can do less)

Oreo cookies (crushed up)

hot fudge

Cool Whip

To make it:

Lay out a layer of the ice cream sandwiches on the bottom of the pan.  Spread a layer of Cool Whip on top.  Then put the crushed up Oreos on top.  Heat the hot fudge and pour it on top of that.  Then put the other layer of ice cream sandwiches on top of that.  Last, spread the Cool Whip on top.

It was a hit!  Everyone loved it, and I will make it again!!

Monday Made It ~ Sprucing Up Lamp Shades

This weekend has been SUPER busy for us!  We have been busy working on moving our kids and furniture into new spaces.  Friday we had the carpets cleaned.  Saturday Ginny Beth's new furniture was delivered, and that is when the fun began!  Here are the finished products!

So, needless to say, I have not been in school mode yet, though I go back on Thursday of this week.  So, this week I worked on making my little girl's lampshade to match her room.  You could do this in your  classroom with a lamp to spruce it up a little too.

First, I gathered my supplies:  lamp shade, ribbon, scissors, and glue gun.  We really didn't want to buy her new lamps since we already had these, and it would all work out perfectly.

Then, I cut the ribbon to size after measuring around the top and base of the lamp.

I started with the top, which was so much easier.  I put a dab on hot glue on each of the seams and the put it down around it.  Here is my finished product of the top.

The bottom was almost a fail, but I like it OK.  I had to actually put hot glue everywhere on the bottom to hold the ribbon.  I had to have my husband turn it as I did it, or it was a complete mess.  I have learned to not do this on the fluted lamp shade if I want it to be flat.  So, it looks like a ruffle instead of being flat.

So, it was not a complete fail.  It adds a touch of purple to her room, which was what I wanted.

Monday Made It ~ Finally!

I finally have something to post for Monday Made It with Tara at Fourth Grade Frolics!

I love little bows and flowers for my little girl's hair!  Every day I pull her hair back because it gets in her eyes, and I just can't bear to cut it yet!  When I finish, we pick out a bow or "flou-flou" (flower) for her hair that matches her outfit.  I think it has become an obsession for both of us. 

 

Well, I was tired of paying an outrageous amount for them, so I decided to make my own because they are sooooo simple!  Here is what I did!

First, we went to the Dollar Tree and picked up these pretty flowers.  I had purchased the bows through Pick Your Plum a while back and just needed the clips.  I found the clips at Wal Mart ~ 33 clips for $3.50, way more than I needed!

Then, I pulled a flower off of the stem and cut it down to put the clip on it.

This is where the hot glue gun came in handy!  I hot glued the clip onto the flower.

For it to dry, I placed it on my freebie Staples bag to dry, so the clip didn't stick together.

For the bows, I just hot glued the clip onto the back of the bow and then let it dry the same way.

Now, look at all of my fun bows and flowers!  Love them all!  And I still have plenty of flowers to make more!
