Last year was quite the year as one of our trees broke, and many of our heirloom ornaments (my favorites) almost bit the dust. Luckily I caught the tree and the ornaments just in time! Stories like these make the holidays interesting and gives us something laugh about.

As I started teaching digraphs this year, I was reminded of this funny incident. My students needed some help with digraphs, and I always like to review with games. Creating a fun game for them to play helped us all have a better grasp on digraphs.

They really enjoyed every minute of it because I made it interactive for everyone.

Making digraphs interactive was simple for my students. One student simply read the word card they drew to the group. Then all students had to spell the word. If the word was read and spelled correctly, each student received a point. When a "broken word" ornament was pulled, all the cards went back into the pile.

Now the students had no clue they were actually doing all of the review for me during our Orton-Gillingham lesson. They read words AND spelled words. It was great to get two activities done at one time. It allowed me time to assess students' ability all at one time.

And you can grab a copy of this game by clicking {here} or on the picture below.

  1. I just love this game. It's festive, but sticks to the purpose of the lesson which is so important during this crazy time of year.
