It's the Eve of Halloween and Book Talk Thursday!
One of my favorite books to read this time of year is The Hallo-wiener by Dav Pilkey. The kids love it, and it has a great message.
Many of you have read it, I am sure, but if not, I will fill you in. Oscar the dog (a weiner dog) wants to have the best costume ever, but his mom bought him a hot dog costume. He wears it, but the other dogs make fun of him and take all of the good candy. In the end, the other dogs get into a bind because of the cats. Oscar shows his true friendship when he helps them out.
When I read the book to my students, I like to do a fun activity with them. They love making this simple foldable for Beginning, Middle, and End. You can grab it by clicking {here} or on the picture below. I have turned the body of the dog around, so the beginning is his head.
The book is also a great springboard for talking about friendships and helping others, even when they are not nice to you.
I hope everyone enjoys their Halloween!
