OK! It's not Monday, but I do want to share one of the books I plan to read this summer with you and link up with my friend Emily from the Reading Tutor/OG for Mentor Monday.
This summer I plan to read a lot, and most will be mindless reads, but I always like to read a couple of good professional books. Here are two I plan to read this summer
1. Genre Connections: Lessons to Launch Literary and Nonfiction Texts by Tanny McGregor
I loved, loved, loved Comprehension Connections: Bridges to Strategic Reading by Tanny McGregor and saw her at the Virginia State Reading Association Conference. I love her simple ways to get kids to understand genre and can't wait to read more of her ideas.
2. Word Callers: Small-Group and One-to-One Interventions for Children Who "Read" but Don't Comprehend (The Research-Informed Classroom)
by Kelly B. Cartwright
My supervisor purchased this book for us, and I have not had a chance to read it. I have a lot of "word callers" and want to find out how I can help them to comprehend. I am hoping this will help me get them to understand what they are reading.
And I will be participating in a book study with some bloggy friends with the book Teach Like a Pirate: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, and Transform Your Life as an Educator. Stop by in June to find out what it is all about!
What professional books will you be reading this summer? I can always add some new ones to my list!
