Tried It Tuesday ~ Cinnamon Roll King Cake

Happy Mardi Gras!

Being from Louisiana, this is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate.    I love the traditions behind it and sharing it with my family and friends.  Yesterday on our snow day, I decided to try to make a King Cake.  I had seen online that you could use refrigerated cinnamon rolls to make it, so I thought I would give it a try and share it with you on Tried It Tuesday.

Here goes:

You will need two cans of cinnamon rolls (I used store brand, but I recommend Grands because they are bigger.), cream cheese icing (optional), and purple, gold, and green sprinkles.

 Set the oven at 400 degrees Farenheit to heat.  Roll out the cinnamon rolls from one can.

Pinch the rolls together end by end to form a "snake".  {I had to double them up because these were super skinny.}  Do the same with the second can.

Twist the two rolls together and form them into a circle.  I had to make two circles.  {I tried to put cream cheese icing in between the rolls, but it just melted out.}

Cook for about 15-17 minutes in a 400 degree Farenheit oven.

Take the cake out and put the icing from the cinnamon rolls onto the cake.  {You can add more cream cheese icing if you want, but I didn't need to.}  Then sprinkle the sprinkles on, alternating green, yellow, and purple.

The best part of the King Cake is the "baby".  I have a plastic baby I use over and over again.  You just find a place and squish it in underneath into the roll.

Now you have yummy perfection!

Hope you enjoy your Mardi Gras!  I am going to eat some more King Cake!

  1. It's actually freezing down here in Louisiana today. Our Mardi Gras involves too much tv and gumbo rather than parades and beads!
