Stampin' It Up in Kindergarten

I am embracing kindergarten, and now I have even better reason to!  I have been tutoring a third grader since the summer, and he is now doing exceptionally well.  His brother, on the other hand, needs a little boost, so I am going to start tutoring him.  Did I mention he is a kindergartener?  Yes, and I have not been shy about how I feel about kindergarteners!

Well, I have been trying to make it all a lot more fun.  A couple of Fridays ago, I just didn't feel like doing my normal plans, so I improvised.

I got out my letter stamps and stamp pads.  I gave each student either the lowercase or the uppercase letter set.  I showed a picture card and had them find the beginning sound letter to stamp on the paper.

Stamping the letter "G" for goat
After they stamped the letters by sound, the students traded the stamp pads.  The students then matched the uppercase and lowercase letters, depending on what they had on their papers.
Matching upper to lower case letters
They had so much fun that they ask to do this every single day!  I wish I could do that, but I do have other things to do with them.  This is definitely an activity I will continue to use with the kindergarteners during the year.

What do you do for fun with your students when you don't feel like "following your plan"?
