Book Talk Thursday ~ Awesome Autumn

I love this time of year when the weather begins to cool down, and the leaves are changing color.  That is why I have found a super great book for Book Talk Thursday!

One of the best parts of my job is going from room to room.  I love getting new ideas from teachers and learning from them.  On Friday of last week, one of the second grade teachers had gotten the 10 free books from Scholastic, so she decided to read some of them aloud to her class.  They have been working on seasons in science, so this book was perfect.  She read the book Awesome Autumn to them, and I was amazed with it!
Bruce Goldstone, the author and photographer of the book, did a marvelous job showing children what autumn is all about.  The photos in the book are spectacular and really give a real picture of autumn.  Goldstone focuses on the various aspects of the season.  My favorite pages are the ones where he shows how the season changes.  Here is an example of one of those pictures.

I also love how he shows the way that our senses work with autumn.  Here is the page to show how autumn feels.

The book is perfect for helping students really understand the season of autumn and all it has to offer.  After she read the book with the students, they made these fun little leaves to put on her door.  Here are some of them drying.
I would love to see more of these books for every season!  They are so beautiful and fun to look at, and the students really gained a lot of information from it.

What are your favorite books and activities for fall?
