Book Talk Thursday ~ Reading Challenge Freebie

I love the beginning of the school year because I am always inspired by other teachers and books to enhance my own school's reading program.  I have so many fun ideas for this year, and for Book Talk Thursday I am going to share one I tried for summer reading.

This week I am highlighting a fun book called Miss Malarkey Leaves No Reader Behind.
In this book, Miss Malarkey really wants her class to read, especially since the principal wants everyone to read through his Everybody Reads in America program.  If the students in the school read 1,000 books, he will die his toupee purple and sleep on the roof!  Wow!  Miss Malarkey works hard to find the perfect books for all of her students, but one student {the narrator} is reluctant.  At first his friends don't read either, but Miss Malarkey gets to them and finds the perfect books for them.  Even still he refuses to read!  So, will this young man read?  Will the school make their goal of 1,000 books?  You will have to read it to find out!

So, this year I would love to have an incentive like Principal Wiggins'!  I used these ticket pages for my summer reading program and thought they would come in useful.  Click {here} or on the picture below to grab your own free copy!

I would love to give these to ALL students in the school and set a goal for a certain amount of time to read.  Then, I will do something crazy for the student body!

So, what should I do?  Dye my hair a color?  Wear a crazy outfit?  Kiss a pig?  {I am not allowed on the roof again, so that one is out.}  I would love to hear your ideas!

  2. What about water balloons? Maybe draw a lucky reader's name from every class to throw one. Just don't wear white!
