Up until a few weeks ago, I thought of distance learning as being only in colleges and universities. I also knew of many homeschooling families who used, especially for middle and high school students. But now it is our new reality, and reaching students digitally has become our new normal.
The good news is that there are many resources out that can help us reach our students in many different ways. When I was growing up, there was no internet, no YouTube, and very limited access to knowledge beyond school and the library. Now there is a whole world right at our fingertips! We can go find anything just about anywhere and teach our students remotely. I see many teachers using online platforms to teach their students, but my district won't allow us to do that.
So, I had to find a solution. What a simple solution I found! By making my Orton-Gillingham Posters and Word Lists into Google Slides presentations, students can still get the resources they need. I am able to copy and paste the slides into a new presentation that has an entire lesson in, full of games and readings.
Included in the file is a PDF for each set of posters (which can also be purchased individually) with a page giving the link to the Google presentation, along with directions for using the file.
Being able to send my students review material, since I'm not able to actually teach them something new, has helped me make a difference and still help my students as we all learn in a new way.
There are also many other digital resources perfect for distance learning. You can easily find many of them by typing "distance learning" into the search bar at Teachers Pay Teachers.
I have included many other items for distance learning that may help in other areas. Here are the items that currently have Google presentations that can be used easily for distance learning.
Please know that we are all in this together! It's new to so many of us, and we are learning something new every single day!
