One thing that makes me love the Real MVP Kids is the diversity throughout the books. They show students in diverse living situations, children with disabilities, and minorities in a positive light. These kids work with adults and other friends to help them realize their true potential and solve even the toughest problems. And the discussion questions at the end of each book and story! These make it really simple to talk to kids, especially when they don't want to talk about them. It helps children better understand that their own feelings may be the same as other children.
The two types of books the Real MVP Kids showcase for older children are the "Help Me Become" series and the "Help Me Understand" series. Both of them are great for children of all ages, but they have slightly different formats.
The "Help Me Become" series has 3 stories about one topic in one book. At the end of each story, there are discussion questions to help better understand feelings and problems.
The "Help Me Understand" series has one story that goes in depth to help children relate to characters in the story and solve problems. Each book includes discussion questions for adults to help their kids better understand ways to solve a problem and feel better about situations.
Gabby Bears with Embarrassment takes the reader on a camping trip with young Gabby as she tries not to show she is scared. She doesn't want others to think she is scared because she takes her own stuffed bear to camp to keep her company. Emotions like those of young children help them relate to Gabby.
Block Bad Sportsmanship contains three stories to help children deal with times where they have encountered bad sportsmanship. Each story reveals a different facet to ways children react to sportsmanship and how they can work to be better "sports" in every situation.
Two new books have recently been released! After reading about them, you can enter to win a copy of each the newest books.
Leo struggles with letting go of his sad and angry feelings in the book Leo's Pent-Up Feelings. At his horse lesson, he realizes the horse senses his own feelings of uncertainty and sadness. He must find a way to help release those feelings and work toward a more serene experience with the horse.
Limit Laziness is a perfect book for summertime! We are always more lazy in the summer, me included, and this one hit home! It contains three stories to show how being lazy hurts us more than helps us. "Annie's Lazy Day" reminds me of my own kids in the summer. Some days they are super tired because they have done nothing all day long. Once they start moving, it all comes back to them!
