It's that time of year: time for snow and fun. I've never been good at building snowmen, but I always try to make one with my kids. They usually come out looking kind of wonky, but at least we give it a try. At this time of year, I like to ready many books about snow and snowmen with my daughter and students. Today' Book Talk Thursday book, Snowman's Story, is a beautiful picture book with a fun story. {Affiliate links provided to help fund future book purchases.}
Book Summary
Snowman's Story tells the tale of the snowman the animals created to be their friend. He comes to life and reads a book to the animals. Little do they know that there is a rabbit hidden in the hat. When the rabbit jumps out of the hat, he takes the book away with him. The snowman and animals search for the book and are surprised at why the rabbit took the book from the snowman.
Classroom Application
Since the book is a wordless picture book, it is perfect for students to create their own rendition of the story. My 5-year old daughter was able to tell the story completely on her own.
We read these stories quite often because it helps her understand the plot of stories. Using the pictures also helps students of all ages work on making inferences and predictions. These pictures in particular is perfect for making predictions.
