Making Summer Reading Fun
It's summer, and what do our kids do? If yours are like mine, they play, watch TV, play, and read, ReAd, READ! It takes some cajoling to get them to do it, but in the end, they all enjoy it. I have found that the best way to get them to actually spend quality time reading is to find the perfect places to read and keep reading. Here are some of their favorites!
Outside ~ anywhere outside. It doesn't have to be anything special, but summertime is full of outside reading spots. Just pick a spot and read.
Hammock ~ We recently bought hammocks, and my son has found it to be his perfect spot for reading. He loves laying in it and doesn't realize that an hour has gone by while he is reading.
Late at night in bed ~ Who goes to bed early in the summer? I sure don't, and neither do kids! They can stay up late and read. Get a flashlight and read away into the wee hours of the night.
The Beach ~ I love reading on the beach, and it is a great way to relax when you have been busy frolicking in the waves.
Indoor tent ~ Use chairs, couches, beds, and blankets to make your very own tent inside and cozy up with a good book.
A box ~ Get a big box, flashlight, and blankets and curl up with a good book.
A comfy couch or chair ~ So, it's raining or really hot, what do you do? You stay inside to read. My son spends a lot of time on the couch or in the chair with the dog reading a good book.
The list could go on and on, but these are my kids' favorite places to read. I can always find them in a comfy place reading away in between playing and going places.
