Stop, Swap,and Roll Product Swap

I love a good product swap, and this one has been so much fun!  Melissa from Jungle Learners has worked hard to make this a fun and exciting event!  After reading this post, head on over and see who else is participating in this fun product swap.

I was lucky enough to be paired with Lynn from Camping Teacher! She has so many fun items in her store, and I had a hard time choosing what I wanted. I was excited to find out that she is from Virginia and even knows the area where I live in Southwest Virginia!  She lives in North Carolina, which is not far at all from Virginia.  So nice to meet another Southern Blogger!

 I chose her Monkeying Around With Nonsense Words pack to use with my first graders, who really struggle with this decoding.

This was a perfect pack for my students to use.  We used every part of it in some way, and they really enjoyed it.  Here are the highlights.

All week we used the lists to work on on our decoding fluency.  They read a list each day to practice.  By the end of the week, they were all pros at those words!

We also used the cards throughout the week to work on reading the words.

On Thursday, our game day, we used the word cards to sort the words into nonsense words and real words.

I actually learned the most from this activity.  My students read the word aloud and sorted the words.  I found that a couple of kids read the words backwards or just didn't know some vowel sounds.  Very helpful!  This is definitely something I will use a lot throughout the year!

I was also going to use her Winter Birds Alphabet Activities with my kindergarten groups, but I had a sick child all week and wasn't able to use them.  I am going to work with those next week and post my review of it once we have used it.  I know they will love it because I do!
