Book Talk Thursday ~ Mother's Day Fun with Henry and Mudge

Mother's Day is right around the corner, and I know that many of you are gearing up for it with your class.  Today for Book Talk Thursday, I am sharing a new favorite with all of you.

I have been working with my second graders on moving into chapter books.  We have read some fun ones, and we are working on Henry and Mudge and the Funny Lunch .
They have had so much fun reading this book.  It is a great story about how Henry and his father work together to fulfill their yearly Mother's Day tradition of making a "funny lunch".  This year they make a pineapple sofa.  My students have really enjoyed seeing how Henry and his dad make the sofa.  I like the simplicity of Mother's Day in this story, as it shows that the family can do anything to make Mom happy, just show her some love.

I have created a fun unit for my students that you can get from my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  It includes a fun compound words game, along with summarizing, writing, and comprehension activities.

For you, my readers, I have a gameboard that can go with any Henry and Mudge book as a freebie.  You can grab it by clicking {here} or on the picture below.
