Book Talk Thursday ~ Reading Interventions

I am taking a much needed break from taking down the Christmas decorations.  This is probably one of my least favorite things to do because it means that Christmas is really over!  But, we still have Book Talk Thursday!

I haven't had time to sit down and read the books I brought home because we have just been ripping and running and hosting and ...  I wanted to highlight a book that I have had the chance to read bits and pieces of as I have needed it throughout the year.  It has become somewhat of a lifesaver for me!  I have really enjoyed using 40 Reading Intervention Strategies for K-6 Students: Research-Based Support for RTI.

Our district purchased this book for all of the reading specialists this year.  We have taken some time to look through it together and were challenged to use it in our reading centers.  I love it because the layout makes it super easy to use.  There are 4 different Tables of Contents to help the reader find the perfect interventions.  They include a regular table of contents, problem-solution, grade level grid, and topical.  So, when you need something specific, it is easy to find.  The book includes 7 different parts that span all areas of reading instruction.

The interventions are super easy to follow too.  Each intervention chapter gives some great information about the intervention.  Then a super easy to follow lesson plan is given to help even novice teachers have success.  When I worked with a group in our last meeting to peruse the book, we worked on "Reading a Lot", something I had not thought of as needing a strategy.  The lessons were simple and straightforward for helping students want to ready more and more often.

So, if you need some easy intervention strategies, this book is perfect!  It is my new go-to book when I need something different to help my struggling readers!
