Use the Force! A Fun Local Author Visits!

Today was an exciting day in our little neck of the woods!  I was supposed to have a dreaded Reading Specialists' Meeting today, but they changed the date to next Monday.  Instead, I stayed at the school to see Tom Angleberger, author of the Origami Yoda books.
The kids loved him, and I was fascinated too!  He is so full of life and engaging.  I can't say that I have read the books, but I will definitely be reading them soon!

During the presentation, he had a couple of the students come up on the stage to act out a part of the book and make a large Origami Yoda.  And each of the students and adults got to make our own Origami Yoda.

What is really cool is that he is a local author, living only a short distance away in Christiansburg.  He used to write for our local paper in Roanoke, so he knows the area.  He even mentions them in his books!  That makes it even more exciting!

I snagged two of the books for Zack and had them signed.  I even made an Origami Yoda to have signed, and he drew the cute face on it for me.

Here are some pictures of his visit!

 What a fun day!

Until I stopped to pick up the kids at the babysitter's to hear about the Boston Marathon.  My prayers go out to everyone involved.

  1. Oh my goodness!! My boys LOVE Origami Yoda!!!! It's an obsession, really. They make little finger puppets of Star Wars guys, and I can't even tell you how many of them I've had to take away... They would be so jealous!!!
