In Search of The Wish Tree on Book Talk Thursday

Wouldn't it be great to have a wish tree? The Wish Tree is a fantastic book that shows that everyone has their own wish tree somewhere!

It's winter, and we are supposed to see snow, snow, everywhere! And when it snows, kids enjoy lots of fun and adventure in the newly white world. Charles and his siblings are out doing just that in The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear. {Affiliate links provided to fund future book purchases.}

Book Summary

Charles is out on a snowy day but wants to do more than just play. He wants to find a "wish tree". When his brother and sister tell him to go find his own "wish tree", he and his sled, Boggan, go out to find just that. On their journey, they encounter different animals who need help out in the woods. The squirrels need help moving their nuts, and foxes moving their berries. Other animals need help as well, and Charles and Boggan find a way to make it all work out. As the day draws to an end, Charles and Boggan have yet to find a wish tree, and the animals help Charles along the way. It's amazing how helping others can help him out too.

Classroom Application

What a great book to help children understand the kindness we need to show to everyone. Many times those kindnesses get noticed and we are found that life and friends can come to the rescue. Helping students remember that will help them all to become better citizens and friends to others. So, help your students find their own "wish tree" with the book The Wish Tree and find ways to make kindnesses happen daily!
