Welcome to another week of Book Talk Thursday!
Easter is right around the corner, which means only one thing ~ Spring Break for me next week!! This week I am focusing on one of my favorite Easter books that I am going to use with my first graders ~ Jan Brett's The Easter Egg. If you have not read this book, it is a must read! The illustrations and story are wonderful!
In the book, Hoppi and his forest friends are decorating eggs for the Easter Rabbit, but Hoppi struggles with making the "best" egg. He wants to win, so he can help the Easter Rabbit deliver eggs. After gathering many ideas and materials from his friends, he goes off into the forest and finds a small robin's egg that needs some help. He stays with the egg, and when it hatches cares for it. When the Easter Rabbit finds him, he is given a great surprise.
As always, the illustrations in the book are not only gorgeous, but they also show snippets of the story for a fuller experience! You really can't go wrong when reading this book with your children or students. The message of care and love go along with our own thoughts of Easter and spring.
I am going to read the book aloud with my students and work on some predicting skills. We will also focus on the theme of the story and how we all need to help others and not focus on our own selves.
On Fun Friday, we are going to have a little Easter Egg Hunt of our own. I am going to hide these little cards in my million plastic eggs. The students will find the eggs and read the words. Once they read the words on the cards, they will sort the words as real or nonsense words. I can't wait to hide the eggs and then watch them find the eggs! I love a good Easter egg hunt!
