Winners and Back to School!

What a great last weekend of summer 2012.  Tomorrow the students all return, and I know I will spend a great deal of my morning helping out the kindergarteners as they say good-bye to Mom and Dad and head into the world of school.  The rest of the week will be super fun, as I begin to work with small groups of students.  I taught third grade for 8 years, and my son is going into third grade this year.  I am excited to use my expertise for something!  This week I will be using read alouds to review Thinking Maps with the third graders.

We are going to use Bill and Pete for characterization by creating two different Bubble Maps and then working together to combine them into a Double Bubble.  Bill and Pete was one of my brother's favorite books when he was little, so I LOVE reading it with my students.

We are also going to use Skippyjon Jones Class Action for story elements. Our district has a new anti-bullying policy, so I know this will help students in the school have a better understanding of bullies and how to work with them.  We are going to use a tree map to show the elements of the story.

I am ready for the first week as I get to see students again.  I will begin assessing some of the other students as the week goes on, even in third grade.  I just get to spend a lot of time in third grade and enjoy teaching lessons every once in a while.

Now for the winners of my quick giveaway!  The winner is Meredith from Sunshine, Sand, and Scissors!

I will be emailing you with the Word Wall Bundle!  And since I had only 4 people who commented, I am going to give each of you your choice of word wall.  I will email you with details!  Thank you for commenting!  I love hearing about other people's inspirations!

Speaking of winners, I won another giveaway!  I won Chalk Talk's giveaway for the Pop for Word Families game from Learning Resources!  I can't wait to get this and use it with my students!  I will post pictures when we play it.

I also received my Parts of Speech and Language Mechanics Games book yesterday from FedEx.  I won this from Lori at Teaching with Love and Laughter.  I will be putting these games together this week!  I even have the perfect place for them!!

    1. Lori,
I am not usually this lucky of a person! This is quite unusual! I have enjoyed all of my goodies so far and can't wait to use them all! I got all of my Grammar Games together today and put them all in one container. I am going to use them with the third graders next week as we learn how to play games during workstations. Thanks!
