Getting mail can be so much fun, but what happens when you get way too much? Find out more in this Book Talk Thursday edition.

Kids love to get mail, but they aren't always the recipients of it. I remember being a kid and always checking the mail. I rarely got anything, but the hope was always there. In today's Book Talk Thursday, Ben Clanton's book It Came in the Mail we find out what could happen when we make sure we get mail.

Book Summary

Liam never gets mail, and he really wants some. He looks in the mailbox all.the.time. Finally he realizes that to get mail, he should probably send some mail. So, he sends a letter to his mailbox asking for some mail. What happens next amazes him. He gets something his very own dragon in the mail and thinks he should get more. So, he asks for more, and more he gets! Now what should he do with it all? Liam comes up with a plan to get rid of all of his loot.

Classroom Application

It's easy to say that this book is perfect for helping students with letter writing skills. They can write letters to others finding a way to ask for things they want or need. But mainly, it really does a great job focusing on cause and effect. Liam definitely see the effects of his letter throughout the book. Then once he figures out what to do with it all, he see those effects as well. What a fun way to think about cause and effect with It Came in the Mail!

And just to let my readers know, I am going to change Book Talk Thursday up a little. Now that I have two children playing sports, finding time to look for and read the books for the week has made it tough to enjoy family time. I also don't have time to focus on other posts for the blog, and I have a ton in the works that I just can't finish. So, I have decided to just have Book Talk Thursday 1-2 times per month. This will allow me to have some different content on the blog and have time to find quality books and write quality posts. So, look for a new format for the month as I transition into a new chapter of the blog.
