Story Summary

Pedru shows his own strength as he battles the lion and fends for his life. As he looks back at the lion, he sees his right arm in his mouth. What is he to do?

He is stronger than anyone can imagine as he learns to live with only his left arm. His teacher gives him a drawing pad and tells him to draw every day to help strengthen his left arm. Each day he draws and builds great strength in his arm. But all he wants to do is find the lion who took his right arm and take revenge.

When he and his father kill the wrong lion, he takes the collar to research station. There he learns important lessons about lions and how he can protect his village.

Classroom Applications

Students can learn so much from this book, everything from being strong to protecting wildlife. The short book makes it easy for all students to read and enjoy without feeling overwhelmed at any point. After reading the book, students have a better understanding of why we need to protect animals. Students could then choose an animal to write a persuasive essay to show why we should save a certain animal. The Lion Who Stole My Arm is definitely a book to get students to read and think.
