An Unforgettable Book Talk Thursday

This week I am doing Book Talk Thursday a day early because of an exciting announcement tomorrow!  You won't want to miss it!!

Since basketball season is winding down, and baseball season is on the way, I chose an interesting baseball book to share with you today:  The Unforgettable Season: Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and the Record-Setting Summer of 1941.

The book recounts the summer of 1941 when baseball had two amazing record setting players:  Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams.  Each player set two different records that summer, and neither one is anything to frown about.  I had always wondered what the big deal was about Joe DiMaggio (Joltin' Joe), and this book tells about his season of a 56 hitting streak.  At the same time, it goes back and forth to Ted Williams, who had a batting average over .400.  I don't know much about baseball, but this must be pretty amazing!

Boys who love baseball will enjoy this book.  They will love to find out about two baseball legends who changed the game early on.  While reading this book, I was constantly comparing the two players.  A great way to help students understand the concepts of the book is to use a Venn Diagram to compare the two men's amazing feats and careers.

Don't forget to link up with Book Talk Thursday again this month.  I love to see all of the new books I can read and use with my students.  And don't forget to stop by again tomorrow for an exciting announcement and freebie!
