Book Talk Thursday ~ Author Study Blog Hop {Goggles)

Today's Book Talk Thursday has another surprise!

It is also part of the Author Study of Ezra Jack Keats hosted by Creation Castle!
Picture books are a wonderful way to help students with important concepts in reading.  Many times I use them to help model different comprehension skills and strategies.  Then I help them to gain independence with those skills and strategies.

For this author study, 6 other teacher bloggers and I have teamed up to bring you ideas for 7 books by Ezra Jack Keats.  While going through the hop, you can learn a little more about Ezra Jack Keats.  To start at the beginning, head on over to Creation Castle to begin to learn about his life and works.
Author Fact:  Keats' first book My Dog Is Lost  is about a young Hispanic boy who has lost his dog.  But he changed his idea of a main character when he saw and clipped a series of pictures from Life magazine of a young African American boy.  Seeing these pictures every day made him think of his hero in many of his books:  Peter!
The book I read and reviewed is Ezra Jack Keats' book Goggles.  In this book, Peter and his friend Archie find a pair of motorcycle goggles with no lenses in the trash.  The big boys want the goggles and try to get them from Peter, Archie, and Willie.  They come up with a plan to get away from the big boys. Children will enjoy the boys' solution in the book.

Keats makes it easy to use this book to help children get a better understanding of problem and solution.  It also makes a great springboard for discussing bullies and behaviors they exhibit.

I have created a freebie sampler of my full unit for you.  You can grab it by clicking {here} or on the picture below.

If you would like to check out the full product, you can grab it for half price through Sunday by clicking {here} or on the picture below.
