Book Talk Thursday ~ Frozen

Well, my vacation to Disney is winding down. As a matter of fact, today we are at Legoland!  {At least I hope we are.  I scheduled this post before we left.}  I still wanted to bring Book Talk Thursday to you, so here goes!

I love the Book Fair, and I always take my son to his school's to buy books.  In the fall, we went, and I told Ginny Beth that she could get one book.  I figured she would pick the Sophia the First book with the amulet, but she didn't.  She chose this 2 in 1 book:Anna's Act of Love/Elsa's Icy Magic .

The movie had not come out yet, and I was skeptical.  I figured she wouldn't like it, but it is now her favorite book!  At three years old, she knows almost every single word!  We have read it that much!

The book is a very shortened version of the movie, but I really like that it tells the story from both sisters' points of view.  Since I read it before I saw the movie, I had a better understanding of how the girls actually felt in the story.  Usually I don't think about using these types of books in my classroom because they are not super quality literature, but this lends itself well to teaching point of view.

The reader really gets a good feel for how each sister feels and what they want as the final outcome.  The movie is still excellent, but this book is perfect for reading, even in the classroom!

I leave you now with my little "Elsa".  We have been trying new hairstyles, and this one is one of her favorites!

How do you teach point of view in your classroom?

  1. Frozen and anything related is a HUGE hit in my house! The baby is even saying "Let it Go!" now! I'll have to look for those books! I use a lot of the fairy tales told from the villains' point of view, like The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Seriously, Cinderella is SO Annoying, and Honestly, Little Red Riding Hood was Rotten! Those are great because the kids already know the traditional stories and we'll compare with Venn diagrams and write about the similarities and differences. There are a lot more of those stories and they've come out with a few more since I've bought these. Hope you're having a great trip!
