Book Talk Thursday ~ Green Shamrocks

I am ready for another edition of Book Talk Thursday!

Since St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, I am highlighting a fun book that will delight many children:  Green Shamrocks by Even Bunting.

Rabbit is ready for spring and wants to plant his shamrocks.  He goes out and finds a gold pot to plant them in.  After he watches them grow, he wakes up to find his pot of green shamrocks gone.  He goes to the other animals in the forest to find that Goat had found him in his open door after a wind took them away.  Since Goat only wanted the yellow pot for a hat in the parade and Rabbit wanted the shamrocks, they were able to work it all out.  What a wonderful book for children about problem solving!  They head out to the parade with their hat and shamrocks for a fun St. Patrick's Day.

This is a perfect read aloud for the St. Patrick's Day holiday.  As you read aloud to the students, it is always great to have discussions to check for comprehension.  You can use this set of Read Aloud Discussion Cards to help your students think and talk as they read.  Click on the picture below to grab your own copy.

These are great to use with any book.  You could also use them in a literacy center to help students as they are reading books.
