Book Talk Thursday ~ Snow Day!

This week we had a "cold day", like many others in the United States.  I was planning a lot of creating for the day, but my cold and feeling yucky got in the way.  Anyway, I didn't get much done, but I did think of a great book for Book Talk Thursday!

I am really wishing for a real snow day with snow and all!  Last year we didn't get a read snow day until March!  We waited and waited and finally got one.  I was looking for something to read with my tutoring student with lots of rhyme and found this little gem!
What a fun book!  It has a lot of fun rhyming words as the animals fall off the sled one by one.  But what I love the most is the vocabulary in the book.  As the animals fall off the sled, the author uses some vibrant vocabulary to show how each animal fell off.  Words like "leap","spill", and "hop" make the book so much more exciting.  Children will learn great new words for falling out of something.  They will also enjoy the fun pictures in the book.

I didn't get a chance to get the book to use with my student this week, but it is being ordered right now to read with him next week.  We are going to spend a good amount of time working on rhyme because that is a real weakness.  And this book is abundant with rhyme!  I can't wait to see the delight on his face as I read the book to him.

With my older students, I plan to use this book to work on vibrant vocabulary, something our students really lack in the area.  And how fun is it that it ties in to the current season!

I had planned to make a fun activity and offer it for free for everyone, but my antivirus has disabled ALL internet on my laptop!  I am heading off to work on getting that fixed!

Now bring on the snow!

  1. That's one of Kim Norman's books!! She's the author I had come to our school last year (she lives in Smithfield), and my kids loved it. I don't have this book, but I have Crocodaddy and The Great Christmas Crisis.

Hope you're enjoying your long weekend!
