Five for {Finally} Friday!

What a week it has been!  With a full moon looming, the kids have been, well, they have been kids!  The one good thing about my job is that I have them for 30 minutes, and then back to class they go!

I am linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday.

1.  Have you heard?  Have you been to Facebook yet for the Frenzy?  If not, get over there and grab your freebies!  There are 3 hops this time featuring 3 different grade ranges.  Click {here} or on the picture below to head on over to my Facebook page to get started!  I am in the grades 2-3 hop.

2.  We had a huge surprise at our faculty meeting on Wednesday!  Our principal took us to the cafeteria, and the Wal Mart manager was there with an employee and a huge cake!  They had chosen our school to be honored and appreciated ~ just after the ValuTeachers 403b lady told us that we weren't.  Anyway, they had 20 $50 gift cards to hand out to the teachers.  Lucky for all of us in attendance, the other 4 teachers were not present to win one!

3.  The other night, Ginny Beth would not go to bed.  I caught her up in her room drawing this.

She said it was the sun.  Do you see it?  She is just over 2 and a half, and I am kind of impressed.  At least it is on the Magna Doodle and not her castle on my hardwoods with Sharpie!

4. I have been working on main idea and details with several of my groups. I found this wonderful activity from Peterson's Pad.  She suggested making bags with real items, but she also had these cards in the file, along with five other sets.  Students took the five cards and decided which one did not fit.  Each student received a different set of cards and told the group what the main idea was.  This set was most interesting.

Several students picked out that the animals were mammals, not zoo animals.  We talked about how one little detail can change the main idea.  What a powerful lesson!

5.  And, just a few more hours to join in Mrs. Leeby's big giveaway!  Don't forget to enter for some amazing prizes!
So, what have you done this week?  Link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to let us all know!
