Book Talk Thursday ~ Middle School Fun with Origami Yoda

This has been one busy week!  I feel like I have been out of the loop with blogging, but I really needed to do a lot with our house this week! Plus, it is my last full week before I go back to work, and I am taking advantage of it all!

So, without further adieu, here is another edition of Book Talk Thursday!

Since I have been so busy, my son Zack is giving the summary for today.  I have started to read this book, but I have not had time to complete it!  Today he is going to tell us all about one of his absolute favorite books:The Strange Case of Origami Yoda
Here is his summary of the book:  The book is about a boy named Dwight who is a very good origami person.  His friends think he is weird, and the person who is telling the story asked Origami Yoda what to do.  Origami Yoda, who is a paper puppet on Dwight's finger was right about what to do.  Then a lot of kids in the school started asking Origami Yoda what they should do, and Origami Yoda was always right.

I love this book because it is by a local author who actually talks about real places in the Roanoke Valley.  Zack was funny as he told me about the real places mentioned in the book like the local mall and the town of Vinton, which is the next town over.

This book is perfect for students in about grades 4-8, especially boys.  They love the humor in them and laugh out loud!  It is much like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.  There are funny pictures throughout the book of the Origami Yodas as different students tell about their experiences with Dwight and his Origami Yoda.

There are other books in the series as well.  Click on the pictures below to take you to Amazon and find out more about these silly books!
He is super excited because on Tuesday, the next installment in the Origami  Yoda series comes out!  Yes, we will be going to the store to purchase it!  You can pre-order it now by clicking on the picture to take you to Amazon!
Many of your may remember that the author, Tom Angleberger came to our school.   {He lives about an hour away!}  He was fun and full of life!  Click {here} or on the picture below to take you back to that post and find out about our school's fun day with Tom Angleberger!

And today is the last day of the big giveaway at The Teaching Tribune!  It is the Google Nexus Tablet!  Go on enter now!

  1. Oh my goodness, how exciting to have had Tom Angleberger visit your school (I wasn't following you back then and somehow missed it when I was reading all of your "old" posts). I read his book Fake Mustache a few weeks ago and he also wrote that one. If you don't mind my asking, do you know how much it was for the author visit? I would LOVE for him to come to my school!!! This series sounds GREAT for my boys. I need to check it out, thank!!!

    1. I am not sure how much he was to get in our school. Our school librarian took care of all of the details. He was so much fun and engaging, especially for the boys. He has a website, but I will ask our librarian how much it was to get him to our school.

  2. Hello, I linked up again this week and I added my link...I didn't realize it was a continuation and not a fresh linky each week. Is it okay that my name is there twice? Or do you want to delete it?

P.S. Love that the author came to your school! And thank for sharing that series, I had never heard of it before. My nieces would love those books I think.

    1. I love that you are linking up each week! I love having everyone come back again and again! Come back next week to link up again!

The girls in our school love the books as much as the boys, so I am sure they would like the series.

  4. I read somewhere that he lives in VA, but I haven't read the book yet. I would LOVE to get him to come to my school! Do you know about how much it cost? It would probably be more expensive to get him in my area though.
