The Math Fair was in Town!

OK, so I am a reading teacher, and I usually focus on reading, but tonight was one of the most exciting nights in our school ~ Math Fair!  The kids and parents come out in droves to enjoy solving puzzles and doing a little bit of math.  Here is where we got the premise for the idea:  www.mathfair.com.

In the past, we have Math Nights, where we get the usual parents ~ the ones who don't even need to be there.  So, last year we came up with a new plan ~ get the kids involved in creating the puzzles/games to make them their own.  It worked!  Our small community school was packed to the gills with parents and students we NEVER see at events!  This year may have been even bigger!  My son, who doesn't even go to school there, loves it and looks forward to it each year.  We went around together solving puzzles and problems, many of them on his own.  {Remember, I am the READING specialist, not the math specialist.}

Here are some pictures from our fun night!
All set up in the gym

Yes, food brings in crowds too!

This one was tough!

Zack got this one before I did!
All in all, it was a super fun night!  I am exhausted though!!
Until next time!

  1. Great to see how your team innovatively engaged a new group of participants! That can only move the community forward, and I applaud anyone who takes the time and effort to get "those parents" involved. The benefits will far outlast the event. Kudos!

    1. It has been a lot of fun for the kids! I just hope that each year it gets bigger and bigger! Now more parents are actually starting to come to more events at the school, which is awesome as well! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I am excited to see another Title 1 intervention blogger too! I cannot wait to look through your posts! Your Math Fair sounds like a huge success. We have a big Literacy Fair, but haven't focused as much on Math. You have some great ideas!
