First Five For Friday in March

Thank goodness for Friday!  I am so glad it is finally here!  I am linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching for her weekly installment of Five for Friday! Here are my five super random things!

fiveforfriday
1.  I spent a great deal of my week while going from room to room getting pictures of the staff in "candid" shots for the yearbook!  I try to get them actually doing something with the kids, but I tell them they can't talk.  Nothing like getting a funny fish face for the yearbook!  Here is a picture of me for the yearbook in action!

2.  My students had a lot of fun doing these mazes.  I made them use crayons because they all wanted to erase instead of going back over the words or letters.

3.  I saw the sweetest news story tonight.  It truly made me cry!  This WWII Veteran could not read and is determined to learn to read.  Just shows that it is never too late, just like the book I am going to use this week with my third graders which I wrote about in my Book Talk Thursday, Mr. George Baker.
Last month, Ed Bray read a book about George Washington.

4.  I decided I needed something printed quick but did not need a lot of black.  I printed, and voila ~ black ink worked!  Now I am using up the ink in these cartridges before I hook up my new printer!

5.  I snagged Jimmy Buffett tickets for what used to be "The Labor Day Weekend Show"!  This year he is coming August 17, but I am heading out to see him again!
I also snagged won a $15 Barnes and Noble gift card from Literacy Without Worksheets!  Love those!! More books for my Nook!!!

Now I am ready for a peaceful weekend with the family!  Zack's last basketball game is tomorrow, and then we have some freedom until baseball starts up again!

How was your week?

  5. Thank you for sharing the story of the Veteran learning how to read! I am always so impressed with anyone who continues to pursue learning, at any age. I cannot imagine learning to read as an adult. I love reading so much that I cannot remember when it wasn't a part of my life. Cheers to those who pursue literacy!
