Sound Hunters

I love watching the show House Hunters on HGTV.  I have been watching it since I started dating my husband in 2000 and have loved it ever since.  It is quite fun to watch people go look at houses and hear what they have to say.  There are many Sundays where we spend the afternoon just looking at houses, even though we have no plans for moving.

While watching House Hunters the other night, I was inspired.  I have had these great house graphics from Melanie over at Graphics From the Pond.  I wanted to do something fun with them, and this is what I came up with.

It is called "Sound Hunters".  I focused on beginning sounds with this activity.  In the top row of houses' windows and doors. there are letters.  The bottom row of houses has pictures in the windows.  The students match the letters in the top to the pictures in the bottom that have the same beginning sound by opening the doors and windows.

Click on the picture below to get your copy.

It is simple to make these.  Simply print both pages, cut out the houses (or just the doors and windows), and glue the houses over the letters.  Then students can lift the flaps to see what letters and pictures lie beneath them.   I would at least put the houses on card stock and laminate, but I don't have any of that at the house right now.

Here is how mine turned out.
Please let me know what you think.  I am sure it is not perfect, and I would love to make more of these with other concepts.

I am linking up with Manic Monday at Classroom Freebies.  Check it out if you have not already!

Until next time!
