Contraction Action

I like to make Fridays fun days for my little groups.  Usually we play games, draw pictures of our stories, use the ipads, or make something.

Today my second graders' book ended with a contraction activity.  The worksheet for the book was blah, so I took it one step forward.  I had the students create their own contraction flashcards.  After locating all of the contractions in the book and reading them together, they worked to create the cards.

I LOVE the Dollar Tree, where everything is $1. Can't beat it!  They have the BEST teacher section with posters, books, library envelopes, games, etc.  I could go on all day!  Anyway, they had sight words on small sentence strips and small lined sentence strips in different colors, 30 in each pack.  How perfect!  So, I cut those in half to make them go a long way.

The students then wrote the given contraction on the lined card and folded it over just the contraction part.

After folding it over, they wrote the second word of the contraction on the outside of the card, which wasn't too shabby looking for the Dollar Tree!
Here is the final product.  I don't know which was more fun for them, making the cards or using my Sharpies!  All that matters is that they had fun and learned something.

Tomorrow my son has his very first baseball game.  I can't wait to see how he does.  Practices have been quite interesting.

Only one more follower on my blog and 3 more on my TPT store until the big giveaway!!  Send your friends my way!

Until next time!
